The artificial lake of Butoniga

Lake Butoniga is  located in the northern central part of Istria  30 km inland. The lakes  at Butoniga are 10 km SE south of Motovun and 12 km South of Buzet and 15km north of Pazin.

The lake is surrounded by several small villages. The views from any of the villages is spectacular. Lake Butoniga  is an artificial lake constructed in 1988. Lake Butoniga serves as a water supply for the larger part of Istria.  In Lake Butoniga Swimming and fishing are not permitted there, except at the beginning of December, when Lake Butoniga plays host to an international competition in fresh-water fishing Lake
