The title of the world's smallest town goes to Hum located in Northern Istria, Croatia.

Hum is located in the North west of Istria, 7km from Roc and 14 km South West of Buzet on a 349m hill looking down on the Mirna valley.
Hums population varies from 17 - 30 inhabitants and the village of Hum is recognised and named by the Guinness World Records as being the smallest town in the world.

The fortified town comprises 2 small streets, several houses, a parish church ( Romanesque Sv Jeronim), A bell tower, dating back to 1552, an Istrian restaurant ( Humska Konoba) 2 gift shops and a small museum. The first mention of Hum was in 1102 under the name Cholm.
In the middle ages Hum and Roc were at the centre of Glagolitic literacy

Hum Mayor

Hum still has the tradition of electing a mayor .All the men of the parish gather together in the town loggia and vote by making a notch on a wooden stick.
